Dutcher Crossing Zin Among Top 10 Best Wines of the Year
Editors of the elite Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines have picked our 2007 Bernier-Sibary Vineyard Zinfandel as one of the Top 10 Best Wines of the Year,
and named Dutcher one of the industry's "most intriguing newcomers."
"Dutcher Crossing rates with me as one of the most attractive new kids on the winemaking block," says Connoisseurs' Charles Olken. "Its lusty, deep reds, from its several superb Zins to its Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon that is so wonderfully filled out by a big dollop of Syrah, have impressed us in our tastings, and owner Debra Mathy and winemaker Kerry Damskey deserve big kudos for a job well done."
The Bernier-Sibary Zinfandel earned 95 points earlier this year from the guide: "Sweet, slightly juicy blackberry fruit...is overlain by a hint of milk chocolate and creamy oak in the evolving aromas of this deep and well-extracted opus," its editors wrote, "and its intense, wonderfuly rich flavors follow suit with a wealth of well-defined berries leading the way."
"This one is flat-out enjoyable," Connoisseurs' raters said in describing our 2007 Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet, a 91-point award-winner. "It's a rich, perfumed and generous yet well-mannered bottling whose mix of cassis, dark chocolate and mildly berryish character takes on added notes of wild flowers and spice."
Our 2007 Bill's Block Maple Vineyard Zinfandel, "a big wine of...richness and extravagantly ripe fruit," also snagged an impressive 91 points from Connoisseurs'.
